September 18th: The Big Gay Sword Day

Davenriche European Martial Artes School (DEMAS) proudly recognizes the diversity of its students, including those of the LGBTQ community. The goal of our newest event, Big Gay Sword Day, is to show support to the local LGBTQ community, and that all are welcome at the school. Gender and gender identity is not a barrier to learning the heritage of European martial arts. DEMAS instructors and fellow students have created an environment of support and empowerment for all that walks through its doors. Through this support, a strong community within the school has developed, where people feel accepted and safe.

Local LGBTQ community support groups and services will be onsite with informational tables for the event. In addition, there will be sword and weapons demonstrations, sparring between current students, and an opportunity to get a taste of the different classes offered at DEMAS. If you ever wanted to learn to use a sword like a Scottish Highlander, Musketeer, Viking, Medieval Knight, or Swashbuckling Pirate, this is your opportunity! Classes are open to all, adults and children (the minimum age for children’s classes is 8 years old).

October 9th: Zombie Apocalypse Survival Class

Are you worried about the Zombie Apocalypse?

This may be the training you're looking for. Guns will run out of bullets, but even a broken sword or axe can still function as an effective anti-zombie weapon.

This is a four-hour course that will take the students through CQC (close quarter combat) with pistols (we will be using airsoft weapons) and with melee weapons such as swords, machetes, and other weapons that one might not think of as a zombie killing tool. If you have a favorite zombie-killing weapon of your own, bring it with you so you can work with your own tools and share your ideas with other students. (please do not bring any real firearms or ammunition).

Whether it is a zombie apocalypse, a biological epidemic, or some other kind of catastrophe when the s**t hits the fan, some people will band together, and the best of humanity will come out. This will also cause the worst of humanity to come to the forefront with violence, looting, and chaos.

Will you be prepared? Join us for this class and prepare for the chaos of the breakdown of civilization.

And have a good time learning how to kill the zombies!

December 11th: Four-Hour Hawk and Knife Workshop

With Guest Instructor Steve Huff

Whether you grew up watching Swashbuckler movies like The Sea Hawk, The Crimson Pirate or Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean, we all associate the pirates with the cutlass. The cutlass was used by the sailors in the 18th century because it allowed the sailors to use the shorter weapon on deck with all the spars and lines as well as in the lower decks.

In this class, we will learn the cuts and defensive and offensive actions with the tomahawk/Boarding Axe by itself and paired with the a knife on the other hand. We will also use the tomahawk as a wrestling tool.

This is not a theatrical fighting class but is a look at the martial use of the cutlass as it would have been to protect the ship or to take another ship as a prize.

Bring your own tomahawk to the class and knife (all training weapons must be rebated and checked before the class for safety). Metal or wooden weapons are acceptable for the class.

Time: 12: 00pm – 4:00pm
